memcom awards and conference 2018

Background

Memcom connects senior leaders from professional associations, membership organisations and the wider not-for-profit sector to collaborate, harness best practice and to celebrate success.

Held annually, the memcom conference and awards is the sector’s flagship event. The morning session features over 30 high-profile speakers sharing their insight and expertise, along with exhibitors and suppliers promoting their products and services. The afternoon session is a lavish lunch and awards ceremony which celebrates the creativity, innovation, impact and leadership within the sector.

Brief

This was the second year that the memcom conference and awards was managed by new owners, I am recruiting, who took over the event in 2017. The iconic County Hall venue would once again be used to host the event, affording stunning views up and down the Thames and across to Westminster. The new memcom owners wanted to make a real impact this year – before, during and after the event. We felt that creating an event brand, along with associated graphics would elevate memcom to a new level; help to recruit more delegates and enhance everyone’s experience during the day itself.

Solution

In partnership with our fellow headline sponsors, Taylor Bloxham Group, we wanted to showcase our creative, brand implementation and production skills. Coming on board only 3 months before the event, we had limited time to make a real impression and create a highly professional, unified look and feel for the event. Production elements spanned the pre-event promotions to the printed assets (event guide, delegate name badges etc) through to the venue dressing (wall graphics, timetables, maps etc), digital presentation tools (PPT templates, welcome video and awards ceremony presentation), and finally bringing some glitz to the awards with bespoke trophies, winners photo backdrop and little touches such as personalised lunch menus.

Memcom were happy for us to have free reign over the brand implementation throughout the venue, so we visited County Hall in London to see how we could make best use of the space, carefully considering the flow of people, event branding, information boards and wayfinding elements to make the event flow as smoothly as possible.

Implementation

Ensuring timely delivery of all the elements was a challenging logistical exercise requiring outstanding project management and co-ordination of resources at Triad and Taylor Bloxham Group along with the memcom team to sign off all of the elements.

Access to the venue was only available from 9pm the evening before memcom and we had to be out by midnight – so time was against us. Against the odds, Taylor Bloxham Group’s installation team dressed the venue perfectly and Triad and memcom teams ensured delegate bags were all complete with various merchandise, the event guide and sponsors’ materials.

Outcome

The feedback from all delegates was universally positive. Between us, we had succeeded in elevating memcom to another level – one befitting the stature of the event as the pre-eminent gathering of senior executives and practitioners from the membership and professional body sectors.
