Triad has worked with Sloane Helicopters for over 10 years on a variety of creative projects. We were asked to create a new brand and marketing assets for their new venture, which would fly passengers from Penzance to the Isles of Scilly via helicopter. This new service would significantly improve transport links for local people and holidaymakers alike.
Project requirements included; creating a brand name and identity – including the design of the livery for the helicopter, development of corporate guidelines and the design and build of a new website.
As with any branding project, we started by creating a selection of initial concepts. Although a new venture, we needed to ensure there was some consistency with the Sloane branding, therefore each iteration used the corporate blue in different variations.
Concept 1 used the land, earth, beach and sea idea giving a bright and vibrant colour palette which is synonymous with the Isles of Scilly coastline. Concept 2 used a similar colour palette and its name promoted the fact that the new service would fly to the two biggest islands, St Mary’s and Tresco, something that no other travel service to the islands currently offer. The chosen concept – following various tweaks and amends stayed closer to the main Sloane branding with a simple name ‘Penzance Helicopters’ and the supporting strapline denoting the service offering. We also developed a puffin icon - a bird synonymous with the islands.
We took the final concept and created comprehensive brand guidelines that included advice on our the new logo should and shouldn’t be applied, along with direction on colour palettes, typefaces and stationery design. This will become an invaluable document when Penzance work with other suppliers to ensure consistent application of the brand across all media. Once the brand was established, we began work on the website design and build. Penzance Helicopters had commissioned a third party to manage their bookings, who we worked closely with them to ensure the smooth integration of the booking
system into the website.
The website launched and bookings started being taken in August with flights starting in March 2020. As the service prepares for take off, Triad are continuing to optimise the website to ensure the best user experience as well as creating other marketing collateral to support their offering.
123 bookings within the first day of launch and 257 within the first week!
